Dehradun: The Election Commission of India periodically updates information on the activity of registered political parties in all states. In this regard, the Election Commission of India has delisted 11 more registered Unrecognized Political Parties (RUPPs) in Uttarakhand. Six parties were previously delisted on August 9th. Notices have also been issued to two registered unrecognized political parties.
11 Political Parties Delisted: These parties did not participate in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and subsequent Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. Therefore, this is considered a major action against political parties ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
The Election Commission of India Delists: In fact, many new political parties become active before the Assembly elections, which are held every five years. Furthermore, these political parties also register with the Election Commission. Furthermore, after contesting an assembly election, their activity ceases. Consequently, the Election Commission of India delists these political parties due to their lack of activity.
Final appeal opportunity within 30 days: In the first phase, the Election Commission of India delisted six registered unrecognized political parties. Subsequently, in the second phase, it delisted 11 registered unrecognized political parties. These 11 political parties have been given 30 days to file a final appeal. In addition, notices have been issued to two political parties, asking them to present their case by October 13, 2025.
Notices to these two parties: The Election Commission of India has issued notices to the Bharatiya Sarvodaya Party and the Uttarakhand Pragatisheel Party, both registered unrecognized political parties in Uttarakhand. These parties have participated in elections held over the past six years, from 2019 to the present, but have not submitted annual audit reports and election expenditure statements for the financial years 2021-22, 2022-23, and 2023-24 to the Commission.
This is the rule: The rules require that reports be submitted within 75 days of the Assembly elections and 90 days of the Lok Sabha elections. Consequently, the Election Commission of India has given these two parties until October 13, 2025, to present their case.
Registered political parties receive these benefits: Political parties are registered with the Election Commission of India under the provisions of Section 29 of the Representation of the People Act. After registration, the Commission provides various benefits to these political parties. These include exemption from income tax (under Section 13 of the Income Tax Act), recognition (under Para 6 of the Symbol Order), allotment of common symbol to RUPP under Para 10B of the Symbol Order, symbols reserved for recognised parties under the Symbol Order, and nomination of star campaigners. These 11 parties were delisted on September 19th.
