18th meeting of State Ganga Committee held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary

Dehradun: 18th meeting of State Ganga Committee was held in the Secretariat on Friday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan. Chief Secretary said that all the works being done for the conservation and rejuvenation of Ganga should be completed in a time bound manner. He said that the implementing agencies need to work seriously for the works of liquid waste management, solid waste management etc. Chief Secretary said that meetings of District Ganga Committees should also be held on time.

Chief Secretary said that the construction work of sewage management plants being prepared under Jal Nigam should be completed soon. He said that before going to build a new sewage treatment plant, the recommendation of the committee constituted for it should be taken compulsorily. He directed the District Magistrates of the concerned districts to complete the work by settling the work of land transfer etc. within a month for the delay in the construction of Gaurikund Tilwara STP in Kotdwar Pauri Garhwal and Rudraprayag. He has also directed to get a gap analysis of sewage management done across the state. He has also directed to expedite the flood plain zoning and hydrological survey works of various tributaries of Ganga.

The Chief Secretary has also directed to make the monitoring system online. He said that a sludge management plan should be compulsorily prepared for the byproduct (sludge). He talked about presenting an action plan for the early clearance of the remaining 37 sites of legacy waste.

On this occasion, Principal Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu, R. Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary Shailesh Bagauli, Nitesh Kumar Jha, CCF Parag Madhukar Dhakate, Member Secretary UPCB SP Subudhi, Vice President MDDA and DG Information Banshidhar Tiwari along with other senior officials were present.
