Dehradun: Secretary, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, Smt. Vini Mahajan and Chief Secretary, Uttarakhand, Smt. Radha Raturi reviewed the Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen and Jal Jeevan Mission virtually with all the District Magistrates at the Secretariat on Wednesday.
Secretary DDWS, Government of India, Smt.Vini Mahajan and Chief Secretary, Uttarakhand, Smt . Radha Raturi have instructed the District Magistrates to upload the work being done by all the Gram Sabhas for Aspiring , Rising and Model rating under ODF Plus category on IMIS. Along with this, District Magistrates have been instructed to give special emphasis on twin pit toilets, HH soak pit/kitchen garden for gray water, compost pit as well as community solutions at household level under waste management in rural areas. District Magistrates have been instructed to set up plastic waste management units, use plastic in the construction of roads, install red bins in all public places, tourist places, hotels, restaurants, home stays etc. for sanitary waste management. Instructions have also been given to work seriously on biomedical waste management in the districts.
Regarding drinking water in the state, District Magistrates have been instructed to get certification of drinking water supply in every house, school, Anganwadi. Besides, instructions have been given to install scheme information boards containing information about ongoing schemes related to drinking water at all places, especially at the Panchayat level. Instructions have also been given to the concerned officers to hold discussions regarding these schemes in the Panchayats. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, officials have been instructed to make maximum field visits and collect detailed data and information from the block level and village level to supply drinking water to 100 percent homes, Anganwadis and schools in rural areas. Along with this, officials were instructed to strengthen the mechanism for timely redressal of complaints in this regard along with drinking water supply.
District Magistrates have been instructed to prepare a contingency plan for adequate drinking water supply in view of summer season, to conduct training of Nal Jal Mitra at the Panchayat level, and to stop leakage immediately.
Chief Secretary Smt. Radha Raturi directed that it is the personal responsibility of the District Magistrates to complete the schemes related to drinking water supply on time. District Magistrates have been instructed to immediately bring the obstacles and problems in this regard to the notice of the Chief Secretary. Chief Secretary Smt. Raturi has given instructions to implement Swachchata Green Leaf Rating System in all public buildings, hotels and big institutions of the state including the Secretariat. Under the Swachhata Green Leaf Rating System developed by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation and Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, piloted for the hospitality sector. Swachhata rating is given on the basis of cleanliness, toilets, gray water management, solid waste management and waste management etc. in hotels, home stays, lodges, dharamshalas, trekking camps etc. Chief Secretary Smt Radha Raturi said that it should be implemented in all public buildings and hotels, home stays etc. of the state. The Chief Secretary has instructed the District Magistrates to hold a meeting with the hotel owners in this regard. She has said that we have to promote the concept of Green State in the urrarakhand and encourage responsible tourism.
In the meeting, Chief Secretary Smt Radha Raturi has given instructions to start an insurance scheme for sanitation workers. She has given instructions to soon organize a meeting of the Public Works Department and other related departments regarding the use of plastic in the construction of roads.
It was informed in the meeting that Plastic waste management units have been established in 62 blocks out of total 95 blocks in the state. Out of total 14977 villages in the state, 9848 villages are covered under solid waste management. 9890 villages of the state have been covered under gray water management.
In the meeting, Secretary Shri. Arvind Singh Hayanki, Additional Secretary to the Government of India and MD Jal Jeevan Mission Shri Chandrabhushan Kumar, MD Swachh Bharat Mission Shri Jitendra Srivastava, Director Jal Jeevan Mission Shri Ranjit Kumar, District Magistrates of all the districts virtually and concerned officials of Central and State Government were present in the meeting.
