Char Dham Yatra: Uttarakhand Govt Restricts Entry Of Unregistered Pilgrims To Kedarnath Route; Issues Strict Orders

Dehradun : All the district in-charges of the Garhwal region have been instructed by AP Anshuman, Uttarakhand’s additional director general (ADG) for law and order, on Thursday, to return pilgrims’ vehicles that were traveling to Char Dham without registration from the checking barriers, and to send devotees to shrines based on the carrying capacity. This measure is meant to ensure a safe and orderly pilgrimage to Char Dham.

The Uttarakhand government issued an order to erect barriers along the Kedarnath route as well, taking harsh measures against anyone who traveled to the Char-Dham temples without registering. Of the four shrines—Yamunotri, Gangotri, Badrinath, and Kedarnath, the pilgrims’ footfall has seen the greatest in Kedarnath.

Over 1,80,000 pilgrims have arrived in Kedarnath Dham in the last five days since the gateway opened on May 12; a significant number of devotees are still on their route. As a result, starting on Friday, access for unregistered pilgrims on the Kedarnath path has been prohibited.

About 1000 Pilgrims Were Sent Back From Gangotri, Yamunotri

The 400 pilgrims who were attempting to enter the Gangotri temple on Thursday have been prevented by the authorities to simplify the Char-Dham pilgrimage. At the Nagun and Damta gates in the Uttarkashi area, these pilgrims were stopped from reaching the site. On the other hand, some 600 pilgrims who were en route to Yamunotri were also stopped.

Around 500 cars without yatra registration were also halted at checkpoints on the Rishikesh-Gangotri route simultaneously. In order to relieve traffic on the Yatra route and divert vehicles, the authorities has set up 63 holding locations. In order to accommodate the approximately 80,000 pilgrims’ automobiles, more than 130 parking spaces have been identified in seven districts of the Garhwal area. Compared to the previous year, 20 per cent more parking lots have been fixed for the yatra season this year.
