Over 2 lacs NOTA votes in Indore: Youths rejecting mainstream parties?

New Delhi : NOTA votes polled in Indore Lok Sabha constituency stood at 2.18 lakh which is the highest ever in the country. However, in successive elections NOTA votes were more than victory margins in many cases across the country which was introduced in 2014. The highest before Indore, it was in the Gopalganj Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar in the last Lok Sabha election when voters polled 51660 votes under NOTA. NOTA options are mostly used by aspirational youth who don’t find candidates from mainstream political parties living upto their expectations. However, in case of Indore, the Congress appealed its voters to vote for NOTA when official Congress candidate pulled out of race and joined the BJP during the elections.
