Senior Indian Information Service (IIS) officer Dhirendra K Ojha has been named the new principal spokesperson for the central government. An official order on Thursday confirmed that Ojha, a 1990-batch officer, will also assume the role of principal director general of the Press Information Bureau (PIB).
Ojha succeeds Sheyphali B Sharan, who has been appointed director general of the Publications Division. Sharan, also a 1990-batch IIS officer, had been serving as principal director general of the PIB since April 1 of this year.
Prior to this appointment, Ojha served as the director general of the Central Bureau of Communications (CBC). His previous role at the CBC, which oversees advertising for all central government organizations and provides media strategy advice, will now be filled by PIB Director General Y K Baweja.
