Action will be taken against violation of land law in Uttarakhand, government has asked all DMs to submit report within a week

Dehradun: Action will be taken at the government level against arbitrary purchase and use of land in violation of land law in the state. Chief Secretary Radha Raturi has issued an order asking all divisional commissioners and district magistrates to compulsorily submit a report within a week on cases of purchase of more than 250 square meters of land by members of the same family outside the municipal areas and use of this land for other purposes. Similarly, the government has asked for a report on violation of provisions of purchase of more than 12.5 acres of land with permission. This report will be made available to the government through the Revenue Council.

Chief Secretary Radha Raturi issued orders in this regard to all the District Magistrates, both divisional commissioners as well as the Revenue Council Commissioner and Secretary on October 7. Taking a tough stand on the violation of the provisions of the current land law, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had ordered the Revenue Secretary to investigate and vest the land in the government in such cases. There is also a provision in the land law that in case the land is used in a wrong way, it can be vested in the government.

According to the amendment made in the year 2007 in Section 154 (4)(1)(a) of Uttarakhand (Uttar Pradesh Zamindari Destruction and Land System Act, 1950) (Adaptation and Conversion Order, 2001) Act No. 3 in the state, any person can purchase a maximum of 250 square meters of land in his lifetime without permission for residential purpose for himself or his family.

The government received information that members of the same family are violating the land law by purchasing the same amount of land separately. This law has been violated outside the municipal body areas. Not only this, the land purchased for residential use is being used in other ways in an illegal manner. Now the District Magistrate will send the report of such cases to the Revenue Council on the prescribed format.

Information about irregularities in the purchase of more than 12.5 acres of land done with permission in the land law has also come to the fore. Details about the use of this land for other purposes will be made available to the government through the Revenue Council.
