The government of Odisha has sent a senior IPS officer to Delhi to assist local police with the investigation into the alleged rape of a woman from Odisha that took place on the night of October 10th. Taking the incident seriously, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has instructed Inspector General of Police (CAW & CW) Ms. S Shyni (2001 batch) to travel to Delhi to coordinate with local authorities. The IGP will also meet with the victim to evaluate her health condition.
Furthermore, CM Majhi has directed the Odisha Police to provide all necessary support to the Delhi police to expedite the investigation. Earlier, Director General of Police (DGP) Mr. YB Khurania (1990 batch) had contacted the Delhi Police Commissioner regarding the case.
The 34-year-old victim, a nursing graduate from Odisha, was allegedly attacked by unknown assailants who later left her in a semi-conscious state in the Sarai Kale Khan area of Delhi. She was rescued by police and taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where she is currently receiving treatment.
Delhi Police have registered a case against unidentified suspects under sections 70(1) [gang rape] and 115(2) [voluntarily causing hurt] of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Sources indicate that multiple teams have been formed to track down those responsible for this brutal incident.
