The Union government has recently mandated IAS Nishant Kumar Yadav to take charge as the new deputy commissioner of Chandigarh. Mr. Yadav, a 2013-batch Haryana cadre IAS officer, is presently serving as the deputy commissioner of Gurugram.
Officer Yadav replaces IAS Vinay Pratap Singh (2011 batch), who has been the Chandigarh DC since 2021 — an assignment that is scheduled to wind up in November. Reports indicate that he has been approved for a central deputation, though official orders for his next assignment have yet to be issued.
A letter from the Centre’s Department of Personnel and Training reads, “The appointments committee of the cabinet approved the proposal from the Union Home Ministry to appoint Nishant Kumar Yadav as deputy commissioner of Chandigarh on inter-cadre deputation from the Haryana cadre to the AGMUT cadre for a period of three years or until further orders, whichever comes first.“
The Haryana government submitted a panel of three IAS officers for the Chandigarh DC position. In addition to Yadav, the candidates included IAS Ajay Kumar (2013 batch), presently posted as Rohtak DC, and IAS Manoj Kumar (2014 batch), presently the Sonepat DC.
Mr. Yadav became the Gurugram DC in February 2022, succeeding IAS Yash Garg (2009 batch). In his over-a-decade-long stint with the bureaucracy, he served as the DC of Karnal, additional DC and municipal commissioner of Karnal, and sub-divisional magistrate of Sonepat. He has also served as secretary of the Haryana Public Service Commission.
