5 illegal power connections found in Pithoragarh CHC, staff fined Rs 54k

Pithoragarh: A team from the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Ltd. conducted a raid at the Community Health Center (CHC) in Munsiyari and discovered five illegal electricity connections within the campus on Saturday. The offenders, including a doctor, were asked to pay a fine of Rs 54,000.

Sub-divisional officer (SDO) of Munsiyari, Girish Arya, said the CHC has a primary connection, and houses within the campus were used to be connected to it. Later, these houses were disconnected from the main supply, but residents continued using electricity illegally without obtaining proper connections. During the raid, the team disconnected all five illegal connections. The house owners paid the fines and applied for new connections, which were then granted, he added.

The corporation has been cracking down on illegal connections in Munsiyari. On Oct 24, a person caught stealing electricity in Bangapani was fined Rs 20,000, and an FIR was filed against them at the Munsiyari police station, Arya said.
In Madkot, ten shopkeepers with domestic connections were found using electricity for commercial purposes, prompting the conversion of their domestic connections to commercial ones, he added.
