The Centre has recently extended the tenure of IPS Arun Sinha as the Chief of the National Technical Research Organization (NTRO) till December 31st, 2024. Officer Sinha, a 1984-batch Kerala cadre IPS officer, was given a six-month extension that was due to expire on October 31st, 2024. He had earlier served as the Director of PM Modi’s Special Protection Group (SPG).

There were initial expectations that the current Director General of a Central Police Organisation would be appointed as the next NTRO Chief. However, it seems that this decision has been postponed for the time being; otherwise, the extension would likely have been for another six months to a year.

The NTRO, which serves as India’s technical intelligence agency, operates under the National Security Council, which is led by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval in the Prime Minister’s Office.
