Dehradun: Taking an update on the status of the disaster management plan of the state hospitals, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan has directed to submit the disaster management plan of all the hospitals within a month. The CS has directed for immediate deployment of a nodal officer for disaster management in the office of the Director General of Health. Along with this, he has directed all the health departments to hold a meeting with the Chief Medical Officers of all the districts on the disaster management strategy and working plan of the district hospitals and sensitize the health department on this issue.

Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan was reviewing the activities of the authority today at the office of Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority located at IT Park.

In view of the state being earthquake prone, the Chief Secretary has directed the Disaster Management Department to organize earthquake related mock drills soon with the help of NDMA. He has also directed to organize this mock drill in all the district headquarters.

Describing the training of disaster management from the ground level as very important in a disaster prone state, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan has directed the Disaster Management Department to coordinate with the School Education and Higher Education Department and get a mandatory mock drill conducted on disaster management, especially related to earthquake, in all private and government schools and colleges once every quarter.

Regarding the safety of tourists on the Chardham Yatra route in relation to major disasters like landslides, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan has directed to install a real time warning system on the Yatra route.

The Chief Secretary has asked the Disaster Management Department to issue instructions regarding strict adherence to the guidelines related to the construction of houses.

Secretary and Additional Secretary Disaster Management, various officers and experts of Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority were present in the meeting.
