Dehradun: Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority has started its preparations for the upcoming Chardham Yatra. To effectively deal with any possible disaster during the Chardham Yatra and to ensure the safety of Chardham pilgrims, a mock drill will be organized by the National Disaster Management Authority and Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority in the districts associated with the Char Dham Yatra on 24th April.
Secretary Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Mr. Vinod Kumar Suman on Saturday reviewed the preparations at the departmental level regarding the mock drill in the USDMA Building located at IT Park and issued necessary guidelines. He said that lakhs of devotees come from the country and abroad for the Char Dham Yatra and it is the top priority of the government that they complete their Chardham Yatra in a safe environment.
He informed that on the instructions of Honorable Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Disaster Management Department is making all the preparations strong. Every possible step will be taken to ensure the safety of the pilgrims. The Hon’ble Chief Minister is constantly issuing necessary guidelines by discussing with all the line departments regarding the Char Dham Yatra and accordingly the departments are carrying out their preparations. He informed that all the districts have been instructed to prepare a disaster management plan and SOP for the Char Dham Yatra from the perspective of disaster management.
He informed that last year also a mock drill was organized for the successful and smooth conduct of the Char Dham Yatra in coordination with the National Disaster Management Authority. Many important suggestions were given by the NDMA, which were included in last year’s Char Dham Yatra and the Yatra was successfully conducted. He informed that this mock drill will be conducted in seven districts. In the mock drill, the preparations for conducting the Char Dham Yatra of various districts will be tested on the ground. During this, scenarios will be generated regarding different disasters in different districts and it will be seen how quickly the relief and rescue teams worked and where the shortcomings were. Wherever there are deficiencies, they will be rectified and an effective strategy will be made for the conduct of the Char Dham Yatra.
The responsibilities of various committees formed at the departmental level were also discussed in detail in the meeting. Additional Chief Executive Officer Implementation DIG Shri Rajkumar Negi, Finance Controller Shri Abhishek Kumar Anand, Joint Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Obedullah Ansari, Director of ULMMC Shri Shantanu Sarkar, Senior Administrative Officer Shri Rakesh Mohan Khankariyal along with experts and employees of USDMA, ULMMC and U Prepare were present in the meeting.
NDMA will test the preparations of the districts
Dehradun. Orientation and Coordination Conference will be held on April 16, Table Top Exercise on April 22 and Mock Drill on April 24. This mock drill will be conducted under the supervision of NDMA officials. During this, the preparations of the districts during landslides, heavy rainfall, crowd management etc. will be tested. Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Rudraprayag are the main districts for the Chardham Yatra, while Tehri, Pauri, Haridwar and Dehradun fall in the category of transit districts.
The districts will tell how the safety of the pilgrims will be ensured
Dehradun. During the mock drill, the preparations of various line departments regarding the management of the Chardham Yatra will be tested. Along with this, if there is a stampede due to increasing crowd during the Chardham Yatra, landslides occur due to heavy rains and the roads are closed, there is a jam on the roads and markets due to traffic pressure, then a rehearsal will be done of what various departments will do to ensure the safety of the pilgrims.
