Garhwal Commissioner reviewed the quality of the ongoing tarring work between Pauri-Devprayag, said – all departments have to work together for a safe journey

Dehradun: A review meeting of Chardham Yatra, forest fire, drinking water, road improvement, CM helpline and other development schemes was held in the Vikas Bhawan auditorium under the chairmanship of Commissioner Garhwal Vinay Shankar Pandey. Commissioner Garhwal has directed all the departments at the divisional level to complete the preparations by April 25 for the successful conduct of Chardham Yatra. After the meeting, he also reviewed the quality of the ongoing tarring and patch work work on the state highway.

In the review meeting of development works held on Tuesday, Commissioner Garhwal said that Srinagar is an important stop in view of the Chardham Yatra, where proper arrangements for traffic as well as parking are challenging. He directed the district administration to identify some such Dharamshalas and night shelters under Srinagar area, where helpless travelers can get some relief free of cost. He has instructed to keep all the water points on the Yatra route operational and public toilets clean. He appreciated the proactive preparations of the district administration regarding the preparations of the Chardham Yatra.

Commissioner Garhwal instructed the District Magistrate Garhwal to conduct a survey regarding the condition of rural motor roads under the district area and submit a report. Regarding the quality of the ongoing asphalting and pothole-free works on the motor roads, he took stock of the quality of asphalting between Pauri-Devprayag on State Highway-31 and the quality of patch work near Dwaridhar Gaushala. He instructed the PWD officials to complete the remaining work of ongoing asphalting soon.

While reviewing the preparations for forest fire prevention, Commissioner Garhwal said that departmental coordination and public participation are necessary to prevent forest fire. He also appreciated the efforts being made at the district level for this. Commissioner Garhwal expressed satisfaction over the innovations being adopted at the district level for prevention of forest fire, public awareness campaign, implementation of Sheetalakhet model in more than 30 villages.

To ensure availability of drinking water to every villager in summer, he has instructed the officials of Jal Sansthan and Jal Nigam to increase the pumping time as well as ensure alternative arrangements for water supply through tankers if required.

IG Garhwal Rajiv Swaroop said that a dry run should be conducted with all the line departments regarding parking and traffic arrangements in Srinagar before the start of the Yatra. He said that to deal with any situation during the Yatra season, special emphasis needs to be given on accommodation, traffic and parking arrangements at a place like Srinagar. District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan, Senior Superintendent of Police Lokeshwar Singh, Chief Development Officer Girish Gunwant, Joint Magistrate Deepak Ramchandra Shet, Project Director DRDA Vivek Kumar Upadhyay, District Development Officer Manvinder Kaur, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Parul Goyal, Chief Education Officer Nagendra Bartwal, Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Vishal Sharma, District Horticulture Officer Rajesh Tiwari, District Tourism Officer Khushal Singh Negi, District Sports Officer Sandeep Duklan and other officers were present in the meeting.
