Cabinet approves new excise policy, license will be canceled on over-rating of liquor, know the new rules

Dehradun: Uttarakhand Cabinet has today approved the liquor policy 2025-26. Homework was going on on this policy for a long time. After completing all the formalities, the Dhami cabinet has given the green signal to the new liquor policy. Many important points have been added to the liquor policy. In the new excise policy, it has been decided to give benefits to permanent and original residents.   • Provision to keep the units preparing wine from fruits produced in Uttarakhand free from excise duty for 15 years.
  • Provision of reduction in export duty to encourage investment in the liquor industry in Uttarakhand.
  • The system of issuing bulk liquor licenses to original and permanent residents in Uttarakhand will continue.
  • In the Excise Policy 2025, priority was given to creating awareness about the ill effects of alcohol and responsible drinking.

A target of Rs 4439 crore was set for the financial year 2024-25. Against which Rs 4000 crore has been received so far. On the other hand, in the financial year 2023-24, a revenue of Rs 4038 crore was received against the target of Rs 4000 crore. In the Excise Policy 2025, maximum retail price has been made mandatory in departmental stores. Along with this, provision has also been included to cancel the license on complaint of over-rating. Earlier, in the departmental store rules implemented in the year 2013, such stores were allowed to charge arbitrary prices.
