Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the government is ready to conduct Panchayat elections in Uttarakhand. The State Election Commission has started preparing for it. The date will be announced as soon as the preparations are complete. In this regard, guidelines have been issued to the officials in the state. Talking to ‘Hindustan’ on Saturday, Chief Minister Dhami said that the commission is already preparing for the Panchayat elections.
A campaign is being run at the block level across the state to prepare the voter list for the elections. The tenure of administrators in the three-tier panchayats in Uttarakhand is going to end this month. Due to less time for the elections, it is expected that the government may extend the tenure of the administrators again. If government sources are to be believed, a proposal has been made for this. Meanwhile, the government is going to start the process of determining OBC reservation soon.
Except Haridwar district, the tenure of 343 district panchayats, 2936 area panchayats and 7505 gram panchayats of the state was over in December 2024 and they were handed over to administrators for six months. This period is going to end in May itself. Before conducting the panchayat elections, the government has to get many works done, which will take time.
Regarding holding the elections, Panchayati Raj Secretary Chandresh Kumar said that the amendment ordinance in the Panchayati Raj Act has got the approval of the Raj Bhavan. Now the process of determining OBC reservation will be started. We still have time till May 31. We have started further action.
