Pushkar Dhami government is going to strengthen the tax system with AI, the picture of revenue collection will change in Uttarakhand

Dehradun: In the fifth year of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s tenure, the picture of tax collection will be seen more changed. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is going to enter the tax collection system to make it more effective. The proposal of Rs 12 crore of the State Tax Department has got in-principle approval. After the use of AI, it will help in increasing the tax collection of both SGST and VAT.

According to IS Brijwal, Additional Commissioner of State Tax Department – On the instructions of the Chief Minister, the system of tax collection is being made more effective. The outline has been prepared for this. The status of tax collection is continuously improving. In this sequence, technology is already being used, but in the changing times, now there is a preparation to use AI. The government has got in-principle approval on the proposal of the department. In the coming days, the department will be seen using AI. Pleasant signs have started coming in just three months

In the case of SGST and VAT tax collection, pleasant signs have been received in the first three months of the financial year itself. In SGST, the department has so far collected tax of 2457 crores. This is 22 percent of the target set for the financial year 2025-26. Similarly, in VAT, tax collection of 658 crores has been done in the first three months, which is 26 percent compared to the target set. Talking about both types of taxes, the department has so far collected 23 percent tax as compared to the set targets.

Target of 13,722 crores in this financial year

The State Tax Department has set a target of Rs 13,722 crores in this financial year. Out of this, a target of Rs 11,221 crore has been set for SGST and Rs 2501 crore for VAT tax. A target of Rs 12,703 crore was set in the last financial year.

In this, the target related to SGST was Rs 10,200 crore and VAT tax was Rs 2503 crore. In both types of taxes, the department had collected 93 percent tax against the target. VAT tax was collected by 102 percent more than the target set.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the system of tax collection is being strengthened further in the interest of the state. The intention is that whatever revenue is collected from taxes, it should be used as much as possible in public utility works.
