Dhami’s efforts were successful again, Government of India approved Uttarakhand’s project of Rs 125 crore for landslide reduction

Dehradun: Under the continuous efforts and guidance of Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, the state of Uttarakhand has received approval of an important project of ₹ 125 crore from the Government of India for landslide reduction and management. This project has been proposed for long-term solution in the identified most susceptible landslide areas of the state.

In line with the instructions of the CM, the proposals prepared by the State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) and Uttarakhand Landslide Reduction and Management Center (ULMMC), Dehradun were sent to the Government of India. In line with the guidelines of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Ministry of Home Affairs took prompt action and approved the project of Rs 125 crore.

In the first phase, an advance amount of ₹4.5 crore has been released for exploration work and preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR). Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister on behalf of the state government and the people of the state for this cooperation.

Chief Minister Shri Dhami said that this project is a decisive initiative towards long-term solution in the landslide-affected areas of the state. He has selected five sensitive sites most affected by landslides on priority basis.

Mansa Devi Hill Bypass Road, Haridwar

Continuous landslides and falling of rocks on the Mansa Devi hill are posing a threat to public safety. This route is used as an alternative route during the Kanwar Yatra. An estimated more than 50,000 local citizens are affected by this disaster.

Galogi Hydroelectric Project Road, Mussoorie (Dehradun) This area located at km 25 of Dehradun-Mussoorie road is affected by frequent landslides during the rainy season, which disrupts traffic and has caused severe damage to the road structure.

Bahuguna Nagar Landslide Area, Karnaprayag (Chamoli) Residential buildings and roads have suffered extensive damage due to severe incidents of land subsidence in this area located in Karnaprayag. This area is highly unstable from a geological point of view.

Charton Lodge Landslide Area, Nainital

Many houses were affected and many families were temporarily displaced due to the extensive landslide that occurred in September 2023. Inadequate drainage system and continuous rain were the main factors.

Khotila-Ghatdhar Landslide Area, Dharchula (Pithoragarh) – This area located on the Indo-Nepal border is affected by excessive rainfall and soil erosion, which has caused severe soil erosion in the border area.
