New Delhi: Serious allegations have emerged against two senior IAS officers, M. Imkongla Jamir (2002 batch), the Resident Commissioner, and Aakriti Bansal (2018 batch), the Additional Resident Commissioner, serving at the Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi. A formal complaint, filed by Srinivas L, has raised concerns regarding misuse of government resources, irregular financial transactions, and administrative negligence.
The complaint, submitted to Karnataka Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh (1989 batch IAS officer), accuses the two officers of failing to discharge their duties responsibly, resulting in significant mismanagement and misuse of state resources.
Allegations Against Akriti Bansal
Financial Irregularities and Maternity Benefit Misuse
The complaint alleges that Aakriti Bansal, who has served as Additional Resident Commissioner for over three years, is involved in multiple financial irregularities. Specifically, it claims that Bansal submitted reimbursement claims worth approximately ₹6 lakh related to her previous posting, along with ₹27 lakh in maternity benefits from Karnataka Bhavan’s accounts department.
However, the hospital where these expenses were incurred was not on the government-approved panel, yet the reimbursement was allegedly processed and cleared in record time.
Misuse of Official Residence and Vehicles
Further accusations claim that Bansal has misused her government accommodation, allowing her relatives to occupy the residence. In addition, official vehicles are allegedly used for personal purposes, including long-distance travel (150–160 km per day), which has led to an estimated fuel expense of ₹35,000–₹40,000 per month.
Unsettled Reimbursements for Medical Treatment
The complaint also highlights a Grade-1 staff member who incurred nearly ₹17 lakh in medical expenses for kidney treatment at a panel hospital. Despite this, the individual has reportedly not received any reimbursement from the government, raising further questions about the integrity of the financial handling at Karnataka Bhavan.
Allegations Against M. Imkongla Jamir
Failure to Act on Financial Mismanagement
The complaint also implicates M. Imkongla Jamir, accusing him of turning a blind eye to the alleged misuse of government resources under Bansal’s watch. Furthermore, Jamir is reportedly involved in organizing monthly gatherings of IAS officers at Karnataka Bhavan, raising questions about the administrative culture within the office.
Call for Action
The complainant, Srinivas L, has urged the Karnataka Chief Secretary to take immediate action in response to these allegations. He has called for a transfer of both officers to restore discipline and maintain the credibility of Karnataka Bhavan. The complaint also emphasizes the need for thorough investigation and accountability to ensure that such administrative lapses do not continue.
The matter has sparked concern in bureaucratic circles, as the misuse of government facilities not only raises ethical questions but also threatens the efficiency and trust of state resources.
Next Steps
With these serious allegations now in the public domain, it remains to be seen how the Karnataka Government will respond. The Chief Secretary’s office is expected to conduct a thorough investigation, and stakeholders will be closely watching whether any corrective measures are implemented to restore order and discipline at Karnataka Bhavan.
