Dehradun. The Union Home Ministry has constituted an inter-ministerial central team to assess the damage caused by the disaster this year in Uttarakhand. This seven-member team constituted under the chairmanship of Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs R Prasanna is coming to Uttarakhand on September 8. Uttarakhand has suffered a lot due to monsoon rains this year. The state has requested the Centre for financial assistance to compensate for this loss and to secure the infrastructure that is on the verge of getting damaged.
On Thursday, Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister RK Sudhanshu and Secretary Disaster Management Vinod Kumar Suman have also submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Secretary of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in New Delhi. Principal Secretary RK Sudhanshu said that the talks with the officials of the NDMA have been fruitful and positive. In the meeting, the memorandum presented by the state government was discussed in detail. The officials of the Centre have assured that every possible financial package will be made available to the state.
Secretary Disaster Management Vinod Kumar Suman said that the Centre has constituted a seven-member committee to assess the damage caused during the disaster in Uttarakhand. It includes Joint Secretary Home as well as Deputy Director Mahesh Kumar, Superintending Engineer Sudhir Kumar, Deputy Director Vikas Sachan, Chief Engineer Pankaj Singh, Director Dr Virendra Singh and R Krishna Kumari.
This team will visit all the disaster-affected districts and assess the situation there first-hand. He said that all preparations have been completed to make the team assess the situation of the affected areas.
Getting full support from the Center: Dhami
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that in this hour of disaster, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are constantly standing with the state. The central government has provided all possible support so far, as a result of which relief and rescue operations have gained momentum. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had directed the state to send proposals regarding the damage caused by the disasters. In this sequence, the state has requested the Center to give a special package.
