12.5 percent reduction in maternal mortality ratio in Uttarakhand, CM Dhami expressed happiness

Dehradun: Uttarakhand has performed well in the field of maternal health. According to the special bulletin issued on maternal mortality in India, the maternal mortality ratio (MMR) of Uttarakhand has come down from 104 in 2020–22 to 91 in 2021–23. There has been a reduction of 13 points and a decline of 12.5 percent in maternal deaths in the last few years. On which CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said on this achievement that this is the result of the dedicated policies of the state government, the efforts of health workers and community participation. He reiterated the resolve to continue continuous efforts to further strengthen maternal health.

At the same time, Health Secretary R Rajesh Kumar said that maternal health is among the top priorities of the government. This achievement is the result of the collective efforts of dedicated health workers, government institutions and community partners. The state government is determined to further reduce the maternal mortality rate. Along with this, safe and respectful delivery services should be provided to every pregnant woman. He also said that it is the goal of the state that no mother should lose her life due to preventable reasons and Uttarakhand should become an ideal state for safe motherhood.

Focus on identifying and reducing the risk of pregnant women: He said that under maternal mortality monitoring and response, immediate corrective action is to be taken on the basis of timely information and in-depth analysis of each maternal death. Under birth preparedness and complication management (BPCR), early identification of risk-signs in pregnant women and families is to be done and promptness is to be shown in emergency situations.

Emphasis on providing ANC/PNC services till the last mile: Under quality improvement, the aim is to provide safe, clean and respectful services by expanding the Lakshya-certified delivery room and maternity operation theatre. Under community participation, ANC/PNC services are to be provided till the last mile through the network of ASHA, ANM and CHO. To promote institution-based delivery, free and inclusive maternal and newborn services are to be provided by better implementation of Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) and Janani-Shishu Suraksha Program (JSSK). Emphasis on haemoglobin testing of more than 57 thousand pregnant women: Under the emergency transport system, 108 and 102 ambulance services are to be empowered and GPS based referral protocol is to be implemented. Under the Pulse Anemia Mega Campaign, emphasis is being laid on haemoglobin testing of more than 57 thousand pregnant women and condition-specific treatment as well as comprehensive screening at the community level in the second phase.
