Dehradun: 10 killed, 8 still missing in heavy rains; CM Dhami visits disaster-hit areas

Dehradun: Torrential rains in Dehradun and surrounding areas on Monday night wreaked havoc. Heavy damage has been caused by heavy rains in Karligarh near Sahasradhara.

Roads, embankments and bridges were washed away due to the rise in the river in Maldevta area, while many colonies were submerged due to the rising water level of Rispana and Bindal rivers. Debris entered the houses. Many shops and hotels were also washed away.

Mussoorie-Dehradun road closed due to landslide

The bridge near Premnagar Nanda ki Chowki on Dehradun-Paonta National Highway was washed away, due to which traffic came to a complete halt. Mussoorie-Dehradun road has also been closed due to landslides at many places.

13 people went missing after a tractor trolley was washed away in the Asan river, out of which the bodies of 5 people have been found. According to the information received so far, a total of 10 bodies have been recovered, 8 people are still missing. A youth from Punjab riding a scooter died after a stone fell from the Judge Rate hill on the Kalsi Chakrata motor road.

At the same time, two people were buried in a landslide near the old footpath from Jhadipani to Rajpur in Mussoorie. One of them died on the spot. Due to the filling of debris, students of Devbhoomi College have been evacuated. In Dehradun, the railing and water tank were washed away due to water filling in the Tapkeshwar Mahadev temple.

CM Dhami visited

At the same time, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the disaster-affected areas and took stock of the relief and rescue operations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah took detailed information from the Chief Minister about the situation arising due to heavy rains. He has assured all possible cooperation to the state.

Chief Minister Dhami said that the state government stands with every affected family. The administration is already on alert mode and NDRF, SDRF, police and local administration are constantly active.
