Dehradun: Home Secretary Shailesh Bagauli reviewed the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state via video conferencing with all District Magistrates from his office in the Secretariat on Thursday. He directed that all District Magistrates should raise awareness through various platforms and encourage them to compulsorily register their marriages under the UCC. Bagauli stated that the first UCC Day will be celebrated on January 27, 2026, and various public awareness programs related to the UCC will be organized in each district. He also sought suggestions from all District Magistrates for the program outline for the UCC Day.
The Secretary also stated that after the monsoon season, information related to the UCC should be widely disseminated at the village level and special camps should be organized. Village heads of villages that achieve 100% marriage registration should be honored. He directed all District Magistrates to work in a planned manner to ensure 100% marriage registration in the next three months.
During the meeting, it was reported that Bageshwar (63 percent), Champawat (60 percent), Rudraprayag (58 percent), Pauri Garhwal (50 percent), Uttarkashi, and Chamoli (49 percent) districts are performing relatively well in the area of marriage registration. Other districts also need to accelerate the pace in this direction.
Bagauli also directed to further expedite the marriage registration process through CSC (Common Service Center). In the meeting, all District Magistrates reported on the progress of UCC registration in their respective districts and also shared practical difficulties being faced in specific areas. Additional Secretary Home, Nivedita Kukreti, was also present at the meeting.
