Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid tribute to the martyrs by laying a wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial at the Martyrs’ Sthal, Rampur Tiraha, Muzaffarnagar (Uttar Pradesh) on Thursday. He participated in a program organized to commemorate the martyrs of the Uttarakhand statehood movement. He paid tribute to the martyrs by laying a wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial. On this occasion, the Chief Minister announced that a master plan for the redevelopment of the Rampur Tiraha Martyrs’ Sthal will be prepared. Work will be undertaken to enhance the museum. A canteen will be built at the site and a stop for Uttarakhand buses will also be established.
The Chief Minister stated that the Rampur Tiraha firing incident of October 2, 1994, will remain etched as the most brutal and deeply wounding chapter in the history of the Uttarakhand statehood movement. Even today, the soul of every Uttarakhandi trembles at the memory of that brutal firing and the inhuman atrocities committed against the dignity of women. Those responsible for protecting the people crossed all limits of violence and barbarity. An attempt was made to ruthlessly crush a peaceful movement. He said that this day will always remind us that the foundation of Uttarakhand was watered with the blood of our martyrs.
The Chief Minister said that we achieved a separate state as a result of the sacrifice, penance, and dedication of our agitators. The state government is working with determination to create the Uttarakhand of the agitators’ dreams. The state government has implemented 10 percent horizontal reservation in jobs for the agitators and their dependents. A monthly pension of Rs. 3,000 has been instituted for the families of martyred agitators. Additionally, injured and jailed agitators are receiving a pension of Rs. 6,000, and active agitators receive a monthly pension of Rs. 4,500. The government has issued identity cards to identified state agitators and has also employed 93 agitators in government service. They are also being provided free travel on government buses.
The Chief Minister stated that the role of women in the Uttarakhand statehood movement has been crucial. To honor them, 30 percent horizontal reservation for women has been implemented in state government jobs. To perpetuate the support provided by the people of the region to the state agitators during the Rampur firing incident, public gathering centers have been constructed in Rampur, Sisuna, Meghpur, and Bagonwali. To perpetuate the contribution of the late Mahavir Sharma, who donated land for the Martyrs’ Memorial, a statue of him has been installed at the Martyrs’ Memorial.
The Chief Minister stated that Uttarakhand was the first state to implement the Uniform Civil Code, ensuring equal rights and duties for all citizens. A strict anti-copying law has been implemented in the state, resulting in over 24,000 youth from Uttarakhand securing government jobs in the last four years. He stated that the government is working with full commitment to preserve the demography of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. A strict anti-conversion law has been implemented in the state. More than 9,000 acres of government land has been freed from encroachment. A strict anti-riot law has been enacted in the state. He stated that a decision has also been made to abolish the Madrasa Board by implementing a new law. After the implementation of this law, from July 1, 2026, only those madrasas will be able to operate in Uttarakhand that teach the curriculum prescribed by the government board. Strict action is being continuously taken against those who defame Sanatan culture in the state through ‘Operation Kalanemi’. On this occasion, Uttarakhand Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj, Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Anil Kumar, Kapil Dev, former MP Sajeev Baliyan, MLA Roorkee Pradeep Batra, MLA Khanpur Umesh Kumar, MLA Jhabreda Virendra Jati, rank holder Madhu Bhatt, Rajendra Anthwal, Shobharam Prajapati, Secretary Yugal Kishore Pant, District Magistrate Haridwar Mayur Dixit, Senior Superintendent of Police Haridwar Pramod Doval, state agitators and other dignitaries were present.
