Dehradun: The Food and Civil Supplies Department has been implementing the e-KYC process for ration cards in Uttarakhand for a long time. KYC is being done through fingerprints and retinal screens. However, in many areas of the state, people have not yet completed their KYC, as difficult geographical conditions and network connectivity pose major challenges. During her field visits, Department Minister Rekha Arya understood the practicalities of this process and has instructed that anyone who has not completed e-KYC need not worry.
Following the direction of Food and Civil Supplies Minister Rekha Arya, the department issued related orders to all district supply officers yesterday. It should be noted that the process of e-KYC for ration card holders is ongoing in all districts of the state, and the central government has declared November 30th as the deadline for this process. However, in most parts of the state, a large number of e-KYCs have not yet been completed.
Minister Rekha Arya stated that during her meetings with the public, she received numerous complaints that the heads of most families are away from home for their livelihoods, and as a result, their e-KYCs have not yet been completed due to a lack of thumb or retina scans. Network and other connectivity issues are a major challenge in many areas. KYCs for some very elderly people and those suffering from incurable diseases have also not been completed. These ration card holders were worried about whether they would be able to receive rations after November.
Uttarakhand Food and Civil Supplies Minister Rekha Arya has directed departmental officials to distribute rations where e-KYCs have not been completed due to these reasons. Following the minister’s instructions, the Food Supply Commissioner also directed all district supply officers on Saturday to ensure that no one’s ration is withheld due to a lack of e-KYC, and that those whose KYC has not been completed should be given more time. Instructions have also been issued to pay ration vendors’ outstanding dividends within three days.
