Haridwar: A symposium was organized at the Sanskrit Academy to commemorate the 350th martyrdom day of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Singh. Uttarakhand Governor Gurmeet Singh attended the two-day symposium as the chief guest. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was also scheduled to attend the event, but the CM’s plan was abruptly canceled at the last minute.
The program was conducted in the presence of Governor Gurmeet Singh and Paramadhyaksha Swami Chidanand Muni of Parmarth Niketan. The great works accomplished by Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Singh were remembered, and a pledge was taken to follow in his footsteps. Governor Gurmeet Singh congratulated the Uttarakhand Sanskrit University management for organizing the event.
He said that Uttarakhand Sanskrit University has done a great service by writing four books on Guru Gobind Singh, the four Sahibzadas, and Guru Tegh Bahadur Singh. The entire society needs to learn a lot from the life of Guru Tegh Bahadur. He sacrificed his life for freedom and humanity against oppression. His son Sachcha Patshah and his four grandsons, Sahibzadas, also sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the nation and religion. Guru Tegh Bahadur and his family are the greatest example of sacrificing for others.
Parmarth Niketan’s Supreme President, Swami Chidanand Muni, said that new narratives are being created in the country today. In such a situation, Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur is absolutely necessary. He did not sacrifice his life for any political gain, but to save the country. Such great people can never be forgotten.
Yatra held in Mussoorie: Guru Tegh Bahadur Singh’s martyrdom day was also celebrated with reverence, dedication, and brotherhood in Mussoorie, the queen of the mountains. On Monday morning, the Guru Tegh Bahadur Hind Di Chadar Simran Pad Yatra started from Landour, attended by a large number of devotees, schoolchildren, and local residents. The Padyatra (foot march) began with the Gurudwara, passed through the Jain Dharamshala, and returned to the Gurudwara, concluding with the offering of the Paath Bhog (song).
During this time, the city resounded with chants of Guru Maharaj and the tunes of Kirtan. Local citizens displayed an example of brotherhood by providing refreshments and welcoming guests along the way. Along with the Padyatra, an Akhand Paath (continuous prayer) was organized in the Gurudwara premises from early morning. The Gurudwara Committee also provided detailed information on the life, philosophy, and great sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur Singh.
Guru Singh Sabha President MPS Khurana stated that Guru Tegh Bahadur sacrificed his life to protect Hinduism, humanity, and religious freedom. For this reason, his Martyrdom Day is celebrated with special reverence throughout the country. He explained that the main ceremony in Delhi was temporarily affected due to security reasons, but now the program is proceeding smoothly, with many senior leaders attending to seek Guru Maharaj’s blessings.
