Uttarakhand: Garhwal University to award degrees to Agniveers, MoU signed with GRRC Lansdowne

Srinagar: To provide a new direction to the career and skill development of Agniveers, an important MoU was signed on Tuesday between the Garhwal Rifles Regimental Centre (GRRC) Lansdowne and Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal Central University. Under this agreement, Agniveers of GRRC will now be able to obtain formal degrees from Garhwal University.

The MoU was signed by Garhwal University Vice Chancellor Prof. Shriprakash, Registrar Prof. Rakesh Kumar Dodhi, and GRRC Lansdowne Commandant Brigadier Vinod Singh Negi. Various faculties of the university have developed skill-based diploma and certificate courses for Agniveers over an eight-month period. This will be the first educational program of its kind run by Garhwal University for the welfare of the armed forces.

Addressing the event, Brigadier Vinod Singh Negi described this initiative as historic for the future of Agniveers. He stated that this initiative, with its multi-domain training, will provide a strong foundation for Agniveers to become “scholar warriors,” proving to be a milestone in their careers. He also stated that this partnership will not only boost the morale of Agniveers but also strengthen their commitment to national security and service.

Prof. Shriprakash Singh, Vice Chancellor of Garhwal University, stated that it is a proud moment for the university to have the opportunity to work closely with the nation’s protectors. He expressed hope that Garhwal University will continue to make significant contributions to nation-building in the future. The Vice Chancellor urged the students to achieve outstanding achievements to establish the university’s name on the global stage.

At the event, the President’s Award-winning Garhwal Rifles Band mesmerized the audience with several performances, including “O Desh Mere.” Following this, military officers from GRRC toured the university’s Chauras campus. Present at the event were Colonel Sumit Lingwal, Lieutenant Colonel Amit Puri, Professor OP Gusain, and Professor RS. Many officers and teachers including Negi, Finance Officer Dr. Sanjay Dhyani were present.
