Dehradun: On the occasion of Constitution Day, a program was organized at the Police Lines in Dehradun. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami administered the oath of office on the Preamble of the Indian Constitution and also released the Prosecution Department’s magazine. During this, the Chief Minister wished everyone a Happy Constitution and Law Day and remembered Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar.
Support to the Prosecution Department: Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami announced that financial assistance will be provided to the Prosecution Department for the widespread dissemination of the new criminal laws. The Prosecution Department will also receive assistance for digitization work.
CA Dhami said that a system will be established to award awards for outstanding work in the Prosecution Department. Training will be provided to Prosecution Department officials in various dialects spoken in the state.
The Chief Minister also stated that the Prosecution Service is an important pillar of our judicial system, working to establish truth and ensure transparency and effectiveness in the judicial process. He said that November 26, 1949, will always be recorded as a golden chapter in India’s history.
On this day, the Constituent Assembly of India formally adopted the Indian Constitution. Celebrating November 26 as Law Day was initiated in 1979 through the efforts of renowned jurist Dr. Lakshmi Mall Singhvi and the Supreme Court Bar Association.
CM Dhami said that, in accordance with current circumstances, the historic implementation of the Indian Judicial Code 2023, the Indian Civil Defence Code 2023, and the Indian Evidence Act 2023 has been accomplished. Extensive efforts are being made to provide accessible, simple, and timely justice to the people.
Initiatives such as the e-Courts Project, the National Judicial Data Grid, Fast Track Special Courts, Speedy Justice Mechanism for Women and Child Crimes, the Mediation Bill, hearings through teleconferencing, and the Digital Case Management System are all making the justice system more transparent and bringing revolutionary changes towards ease of access. Under the new laws, electronic and digital records have also been recognized as evidence, making the investigation and prosecution process more reliable, scientific, and authentic than before.
Work underway to strengthen the judicial system: CM Dhami stated that the state government is continuously working to strengthen the judicial system in the state. New court buildings are being constructed and existing structures are being strengthened to modernize the judicial system in the state.
Digital courts, e-filing, and virtual hearing systems are being further strengthened. Continuous efforts are being made to improve the quality of legal education and provide mentorship to young lawyers, as well as to develop a safe and conducive environment for women lawyers. Several historic decisions have been taken in the state, such as the implementation of strict anti-cheating laws and the UCC.
