Good news for farmers, Dhami government issues government order to increase sugarcane prices

Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami recently announced a sugarcane price increase of Rs. 30 per quintal, and the government order for this has been issued today. The government order issued by the Sugarcane Development and Sugar Industry Division clarifies that, as approved by the Chief Minister, the state-advised price for early varieties of sugarcane purchased by all sugar mills in the state for the 2025-26 crushing season has been set at Rs. 405 per quintal (at the mill gate) for early varieties and Rs. 395 per quintal (at the mill gate) for normal varieties.

In the previous crushing season, the state-advised price for early varieties of sugarcane in the state was Rs. 375 per quintal and for normal varieties was Rs. 365 per quintal, leading sugarcane farmers to demand an increase in the state-advised price for sugarcane in the current crushing season. Due to this, last Saturday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami approved an increase in the sugarcane price for the 2025-26 crushing season.

Chief Minister Dhami stated that it is the state government’s responsibility to increase sugarcane farmers’ income, ensure proper respect for their produce, and provide them with convenient, transparent, and timely payments. He directed the concerned departments to ensure no inconvenience at procurement centers and ensure payments are made without delay.

The Chief Minister stated that the increased sugarcane price will not only provide relief to sugarcane farmers but will also strengthen the state’s agricultural economy and help promote sugarcane production. Following the Chief Minister’s instructions, Ranveer Singh Chauhan, Secretary of the Sugarcane Development and Sugar Industry Department, issued a government order regarding the increase in the state-advised price of sugarcane.

He also stated that the deduction for transportation of sugarcane from external procurement centers to sugar mills will be fixed at Rs. 11 per quintal. The state-advised price for sugarcane, fixed for the 2025-26 crushing season, will be payable by all sugar mills in the state. Payments to farmers will be made by the state’s sugar mills according to these rates for the 2025-26 crushing season, and payment information will be provided to the government on a monthly basis.
