Haridwar: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended a program in Haridwar yesterday. During the event, the CM said that January 27th will mark one year since the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that Uttarakhand was the first state in the country to implement the UCC law. He said that it was provisioned in Article 44 of the Indian Constitution, which is considered the soul of the Constitution. Since the Uttarakhand government was the first in India to implement the UCC, that day will be a very special day for us. We will celebrate this day in a special way.
Increase in Marriage Registrations
This law has fixed the marriage age for both men and women. Strict provisions have also been made for divorce and other procedures across all religions. The implementation of this law has freed women from social evils like polygamy and triple talaq. After the implementation of the UCC, there has been a significant increase in marriage registrations in the state. According to the data, after the implementation of the UCC in the state on January 27, 2025, the number of marriage registrations reached more than three lakh in the six-month period until July 2025. In contrast, under the old act implemented in 2010, a total of just over 3.30 lakh marriage registrations were recorded until January 26, 2025. If we look at the daily average, the average number of marriage registrations per day under the old act was only 67, which has increased to 1634 after the implementation of the UCC.
