After the implementation of UCC, 174 applications are being received daily from every district, 46 applied for live-in

Dehradun: After the implementation of UCC law in the state, the government has received more than 94 thousand applications so far, out of which 73,093 applications are only for marriage registration. Under the new law, 46 applications have been made for live-in relationships. This information was given during the review meeting of Home Secretary Shailesh Bagauli. He took information from all the District Magistrates about the registration of various services on the UCC portal in the state through video conferencing.

It was told in the meeting that an average of 174 applications are being received daily from every district on the UCC portal. So far 19,956 applications have been made for approval of registered marriage, 430 for will, 136 for divorce/nullity of marriage and four applications regarding inheritance without will. Of these, 89 percent applications were approved. About five percent applications were rejected and the remaining are under process. At present, an average of 174 applications are being received per district per day. Secretary Bagauli directed the District Magistrates to organize camps to increase public awareness in the field of UCC related services, especially marriage registration.

They will not have to do video KYC

It was clarified in the meeting that those who have already registered their marriage before the implementation of UCC on 27 January 2025, will not be required to do video KYC at the time of application under the new law. But those people will have to do video KYC, who had not done marriage registration before the implementation of the law. The condition of video KYC will also apply to new applications.

Why are applications being canceled, DM should review

The Secretary directed that the districts in which a large number of applications are being canceled should be objected to and the reasons for cancellation should be reviewed. It was told in the meeting that Rudraprayag (29 percent), Uttarkashi (23 percent) and Chamoli (21 percent) have made remarkable progress in the registration of marriages after the year 2010.

Now applications have not been received from only 382 Panchayats

It was told in the meeting that in the last one month, there has been rapid progress in the target of covering almost all the Gram Panchayats of the state with UCC services. Where earlier there were 4,141 Gram Panchayats left, now only 382 Panchayats are left from which no application has been received till now. For this also the Secretary directed to do awareness and publicity work by running a campaign.
