Dehradun: The Ankita Bhandari murder case is currently dominating discussions on social media and in political circles in Uttarakhand. Urmila Sanawar, who claims to be the alleged wife of former BJP MLA Suresh Rathore, recently released a video on social media. In this video, Urmila Sanawar made some major claims related to the Ankita Bhandari murder case, after which the Congress party has been attacking the BJP government. Now, the police have also responded to the matter.
Following Urmila Sanawar’s video and the discussions surrounding the Ankita Bhandari murder case on social media, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Dr. V. Murugesan has issued a statement. Clarifying the situation regarding the misleading and baseless controversies being circulated on social media related to the Ankita Bhandari murder case, he said that it was an extremely unfortunate and sensitive incident, and as soon as the government received information about it, immediate and effective action was taken.
He stated that considering the seriousness of the case, the state government immediately constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the leadership of a senior female IPS officer. All the accused involved in the incident were promptly arrested, and it was ensured that the accused would not get bail at any level through effective legal proceedings.
During the investigation and trial process, the case was also presented before the Uttarakhand High Court, where a petition was filed seeking a CBI investigation. The High Court, considering the SIT investigation to be fair, transparent, and lawful, denied the need for a CBI investigation and dismissed the petition.
Subsequently, the case was also presented before the Supreme Court, where the Supreme Court also expressed satisfaction with the quality of the investigation and dismissed the petition for a CBI investigation. After the detailed investigation conducted by the SIT, a hearing was held in the lower court, where the culprits were sentenced to life imprisonment. Currently, the case is under consideration in the High Court.
Recently, some audio clips related to this case are being circulated on social media. In this regard, two First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered by the police, and the investigation is ongoing. Based on the facts that emerge during the investigation, lawful and effective action will be ensured.
The Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Law and Order clarified that if any person had any facts, evidence, or important information related to this case, it could have been presented before the SIT during the investigation. This is also the duty of a responsible citizen. At that time, the police had also publicly appealed that if anyone had any information, facts, or evidence related to this case, they should share it with the investigating agencies.
The ADG Law and Order reiterated the appeal, stating that the investigation into the currently registered cases is ongoing, and if any person has any authentic information or evidence in this regard, they can provide it to the investigating agencies.
ADG Law and Order Murugesan said that this case is of a very serious nature. The state government’s clear intention is to ensure a fair, transparent, and thorough investigation. The government and the police administration will not tolerate any negligence at any level in this matter, and strict action will be taken in accordance with the law.
