Dehradun: Though many campaigns have been going on against drugs in Uttarakhand, the guidelines given by Chief Secretary Anand Vardhan regarding drugs are the biggest decisions till date. This is because the Chief Secretary has not only nominated a nodal officer to reach the drug dealers but has also told the officials the plan to reach out to educational institutions and youth.
Police action and arrests against drugs are also not able to reduce such cases. Perhaps this is the reason why the government and the administration have also been expressing concern about it. The special thing is that now Chief Secretary Anand Vardhan has taken some very important decisions which are not only related to the decisive campaign against drug dealers but are also being considered special to reach out to educational institutions and youth.
SSP STF nominated as nodal officer: Chief Secretary Anand Vardhan has given complete freedom to SSP STF to run a campaign against drugs during the meeting of the National Narco Coordination Portal. Along with this, he has been named as single point nodal officer. During this, instructions have also been given to include drug inspectors in the campaign. The special thing is that we have accepted the role of District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police and have also been instructed to run a comprehensive and coordinated campaign against drug addiction.
Medical test will be initiated in educational institutions: Chief Secretary Anand Vardhan asked the District Magistrate and Senior Superintendents of Police to motivate the heads of the institutions to conduct medical tests in educational institutions and hostels in the districts. For this, it was said that the arrangement of test kits and equipment will be done by the Health Department. In this, a big decision was taken to run a regular campaign for the medical test of the students.
Empty buildings should be used as de-addiction centers: During the meeting, a big decision was taken regarding the adequate availability of de-addiction centers. In which instructions were given that the District Magistrate should try to increase the capacity of government de-addiction centers. Develop the unused government buildings as de-addiction or mental health centers. During this, instructions were given to start a de-addiction center in the Old Age Home building of Raiwala in the next one month. Participation of NCC, NSS and Mahila Mangal Dals: The role of NCC, NSS and Mahila Mangal Dals in the campaign against drugs was also decided. Chief Secretary Anand Vardhan said that these people are also needed in the campaign against drugs. They should also be taken along in this fight. He also talked about promoting annual health checkup in educational institutions.
