DEHRADUN: Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday called for a study on the carrying capacity of both pilgrims and vehicles on the Char Dham yatra routes, as the number of devotees has surpassed the expected numbers by more than double.
During a review meeting, Dhami emphasised the need to assess the carrying capacity not only at the four shrines, but also at other locations along the yatra route.
He also suggested developing a special plan every year to manage the heavy rush during the peak period of the yatra. “The offline registration for yatra would remain closed till May 31. Thereafter, a call would be taken in accordance with the situation,” said Dhami.
The CM instructed officials to submit proposals related to parking and basic facilities on the Char Dham yatra routes and at important pilgrimage and tourism sites in the state to the housing department. He also directed the Garhwal and Kumaon commissioners to create a route diversion plan to ensure a smooth experience for pilgrims.
Dhami also addressed the increasing number of devotees at Kainchi Dham and Poornagiri. He ordered the implementation of a shuttle bus service to Kainchi Dham. “Besides basic facilities, adequate parking arrangements need to be made near the shrine and along its route,” he said.
The CM asked officials to resolve all pilgrim queries through the ‘Yatra Samadhan app and emphasised the need for improved connectivity between the Kumaon and Garhwal regions. Additionally, Dhami called for a comprehensive action plan to provide parking and other essential facilities on the railway routes and in Karnaprayag and its surrounding areas before the commencement of the Rishikesh-Karanprayag train service.
