Dehradun: Fraud in the name of the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Review (SIR) has begun in several states. Uttarakhand has also been urged to be vigilant. The Cyber Police and the Election Commission have clarified that BLOs do not require OTPs for SIR.

SIR is set to be implemented in the state soon. Currently, the SIR process is underway in 12 states across the country, including neighboring Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, several cases are emerging in Uttar Pradesh where fraudsters are calling in the name of BLOs or the Election Commission, asking for OTPs, and emptying accounts. This is fueling confusion among people about SIR.

Cyber Police are also monitoring this new trend of fraud.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office of Uttarakhand, firstly, SIR has not yet been implemented in Uttarakhand. Second, BLOs do not require mobile OTPs. You must fill out the enumeration form provided by the BLO and submit it back. If you are filling out the SIR online, an OTP may be required, but you must fill it in yourself. The Commission has clarified that you should not fall prey to fraudsters using the SIR. Uttarakhand’s cyber police are also monitoring this new trend of fraud.
