New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved the central deputation of IPS officer Karthik Malladi as Superintendent of Police (SP) in the National Investigation Agency (NIA). A formal order was issued on Thursday, July 10, 2025, clearing his appointment under the usual terms and conditions applicable to central deputation.
SP Ukhrul to Join Central Counter-Terrorism Agency
Karthik Malladi, a 2016-batch IPS officer from the Manipur cadre, is currently serving as the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Ukhrul district. The MHA has requested the Manipur government to relieve him immediately so that he can assume his new responsibilities at the Centre without delay.
The NIA, India’s premier counter-terrorism agency, routinely inducts experienced officers from state cadres on deputation to strengthen its investigative and operational capabilities.

The SSB, which guards India’s borders with Nepal and Bhutan, plays a vital role in border security and anti-infiltration operations.
