Dehradun: The central government has shown strictness on the incidents of madrasas in the state getting scholarships on the basis of fake documents. In response to the question asked by Haridwar MP and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat in the monsoon session of Parliament, Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju gave a written reply and said that the government has taken serious cognizance of the matter.
The minister clarified that on the basis of complaints received on the National Scholarship Portal, suspicious institutions have been identified in various states, including madrasas. In this sequence, the Uttarakhand government has issued an order on July 24, 2025 and constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the irregularities in scholarship schemes. This team will ensure strict action against the accused by conducting a thorough investigation.
He informed that to make the scholarship distribution process transparent, the National Scholarship Portal has been linked to Aadhaar Payment Bridge System, Aadhaar based Biometric Authentication and Public Financial Management System. With the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, scholarships are now reaching directly to the accounts of eligible students. In future, all scholarship schemes will be linked to digital monitoring system so that fraud and financial irregularities can be completely curbed.
MP Trivendra Singh Rawat said that the aim of scholarship schemes is to connect poor and needy students to the mainstream of education. It is unfortunate that some people are misusing these schemes through fraud. He stressed that strict action is necessary against such elements. Rawat said that the digital system of the Central Government has significantly increased transparency and accountability, concrete steps have been taken to prevent such recurrence in future.
