Dehradun: The number of pilgrims attending the Chardham Yatra this year has set a new record. On October 12th, the figure of 48.04 lakh pilgrims who visited during the entire pilgrimage period last year was surpassed. The Yatra is still ongoing. With the closing of the doors of Badrinath Dham on November 25th, the Yatra will be closed until next year.
According to Tourism Department data, a total of 48,04,216 pilgrims visited the Chardham and Hemkund Sahib in 2024. This year, surpassing this figure in October alone has set a new record. In 2023, over 56 lakh pilgrims visited the Chardham Yatra. This year, bad weather and disasters had a significant impact on the Chardham Yatra. The devastating disasters in Dharali and Harshil in Uttarkashi district completely shut down the Yamunotri and Gangotri shrines for several days.
After the damaged Gangotri National Highway was restored to traffic, the pilgrimage to Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines was able to begin. Now, the Chardham Yatra has set a new record for the number of pilgrims. According to the Chardham Yatra Management and Control Organization, from April 30 to October 12, 2025, 4,830,393 pilgrims have visited the Chardham Yatra, including Hemkund Sahib.
Number of pilgrims visiting the Chardham Yatra
Dham 2024 2025 (till October 12)
Kedarnath 16,51,980 16,90,298
Badrinath 14,35,401 14,84,441

Despite the challenges of the disaster in the state, the record number of pilgrims attending the Chardham Yatra this year is the result of the management and arrangements made by the state government. The safety and smooth travel of pilgrims is the government’s priority. The number of pilgrims attending the Chardham Yatra will increase in the coming times.
