Chief Secretary reviews progress of Lakhwar Multipurpose Project…

Dehradun: Chief Secretary Anand Vardhan reviewed the progress of the Lakhwar Multipurpose Project at the Secretariat on Friday. The Chief Secretary said that this is a high-priority project for both the Government of India and the Government of Uttarakhand, and instructions have been given to complete it as soon as possible.

The Chief Secretary emphasized that there should be no negligence or laxity at any level. He held meetings with all the concerned departments and directed them to expedite the work. During the meeting, the Chief Secretary took detailed information from all the departments regarding the progress of the work done on the project.

The Chief Secretary directed that all types of drawings related to the project and their review by the Central Water Commission should be completed on time. He instructed that a timeline with PERT charts at all levels should be prepared to ensure the timely completion of the project. He also directed that the availability of skilled manpower, machinery, and construction materials be ensured. He said that the hydro-mechanical drawings should be made available soon.

The Chief Secretary directed that all types of studies related to the project should be made available as required. He instructed UJVNL and the district administration to maintain continuous communication with all stakeholders and affected people associated with the project.

The Chief Secretary directed the Principal Secretary, Energy, to review the progress of the work fortnightly at his level. He said that he himself would also regularly monitor the progress closely. He also emphasized the need for continuous communication with the concerned ministries for various approvals to expedite file processing.

It was informed in the meeting that the dam to be constructed under the Lakhwar Multipurpose Project on the Yamuna River will be 204 meters high and will have a live storage capacity of 330.40 MCM. It has a power generation capacity of 300 megawatts.

Principal Secretary R. Meenakshi Sundaram, MD UJVNL Dr. Sandeep Singhal, representatives of CWC, and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
