Dehradun: A review meeting of the State Road Safety Fund Management Committee was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan. The Chief Secretary directed the Transport Department, Police Department, and relevant officials to implement zero-tolerance measures for road safety violations. In the event of violations of road safety standards, enforcement action should be implemented promptly and 100%. To achieve this, even if necessary, amendments to road safety standards within the state should be made.
He directed that the licenses of those caught jumping red lights be suspended for at least three months. He said that in cases where challan proceedings have been completed for road safety violations, but the person concerned has not yet completed the compounding process, ensure further action by tracking the vehicle through CCTV cameras.
The Chief Secretary directed the Police Department to submit proposals for any equipment, traffic and street lights, or updated technological devices that may be required to implement traffic management in a more automated and digital manner.
He also directed the implementation of a comprehensive public awareness campaign in addition to enforcement action. He directed the Transport Department and Health Department to consider heli-ambulances and other better options for immediate medical emergencies in case of road accidents and to prepare a proposal after conducting detailed research. Secretaries Shailesh Bagoli and Brijesh Kumar Sant, Inspector General of Police Nilesh Anand Bharne, and other relevant officials were present at the meeting.
