CM Dhami attended the meeting of NITI Aayog chaired by PM Modi, requested to develop a sustainable drainage system

Dehradun: The tenth meeting of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the meeting of NITI Aayog. During the meeting, the CM said that due to rapid urbanization in the state, the problem of drainage in cities has become a big challenge. To solve this problem, he requested to make a special plan to develop a sustainable drainage system at the national level.

The CM also requested to include lift irrigation in the guidelines of PM Krishi Sinchai Yojana. The CM said that due to the specific geographical conditions of Uttarakhand, only 10 percent of the land area of ​​​​the mountainous region is currently being irrigated. He said that efforts are being made to conserve rainwater through the construction of check dams and small reservoirs along with the river linking project towards connecting the glacier-based rivers with rain-based rivers in Uttarakhand. During the meeting, the CM said that in the year 2026, the famous Maa Nanda Rajjat ​​Yatra, known as the mountainous Mahakumbh, is to be organized in Uttarakhand and in the year 2027, Kumbh is to be organized in Haridwar. He sought cooperation to make both these events grand and divine. The CM said that demographic dividend also plays an important role in the creation of a developed India. To get the benefit of which, it is necessary to exploit it within a certain time frame. In this regard, the coming ten years are very important for Uttarakhand, because only in these years can we take maximum advantage of the demographic dividend. In view of which, work is being done at all levels to promote self-employment in the state.

The CM said that while the contribution of the primary sector in the GDP of Uttarakhand is only 9.3 percent, about 45 percent of the population is engaged in this work. In view of this problem, the farmers of the state are being encouraged to adopt high value agriculture instead of low value agriculture. For this, work has been started on many projects. These include Apple Mission, Kiwi Mission, Dragon Fruit Mission, Millet Mission and promotion of aromatic agriculture.

During the meeting, the CM said that the 38th National Games held in Uttarakhand were organized on the theme of Green Games keeping in mind the Prime Minister’s vision of Net Zero. In these games, 4000 medals were prepared by recycling electronic waste material. The entire energy needs were met through solar energy. In this event, success was achieved in preventing the emission of about 4 to 5 thousand tonnes of carbon dioxide. He said that successful results of the winter tour have come out. The tourism sector of the state has benefited greatly from the Prime Minister’s visit to Harshil and Mukhaba.
