What is the belief
In the past, there was a practice of human sacrifice in the historical Bagwal fair i.e. Ashadhi Kautik, which over time turned into stone war. In the year 2013, after the court order, Bagwal war started being played with flowers and fruits instead of stones. In this war, blood equal to the body of a person is shed.
It is believed that in the mythological times, people of four Khams used to sacrifice humans to please their revered mother Varahi Devi. Once when it was the turn of an old lady of Chamyal Kham to sacrifice her only grandson, she did penance of Maa Varahi, fearing the destruction of the clan. Maa Varahi Devi was pleased with this.
When the mother was pleased, on the advice of the old lady, the chiefs of the four Khams agreed to worship by fighting among themselves and shedding the blood equivalent to that of a human. Since then, the tradition of Bagwal fair has been going on. Before the year 2022, the Bagwal war was fought with stones. In which a lot of blood was shed, but it is said that no one was seriously injured.
