Dehradun: Today is the third day of the Chamoli Nandanagar disaster. Rescue operations continue for those trapped under the debris. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami arrived at the Kurud helipad to assess the situation. The Chamoli District Magistrate briefed him on the situation. Following this, CM Dhami conducted a field inspection of the disaster-affected area in Nandanagar, Chamoli. During this visit, CM Dhami received updates on the ongoing rescue operations and also met with the affected people.
During this visit, CM Dhami reached Nandanagar, a disaster-affected area in Chamoli district, to console the affected people and assured them of all possible assistance. CM Dhami stated that his government stands with the victims in every situation.
CM Dhami reviewed the damage caused by the disaster and the ground situation of relief work. The CM directed the administration to expedite relief and rehabilitation work. Expressing his deepest condolences to the victims, CM Dhami assured them of all possible assistance. He also vowed to expedite the rehabilitation and compensation process for those affected.
Five bodies have been recovered from the debris so far in the Nandanagar disaster. Two people were pulled alive from the rubble. Three people are still missing and are being searched for. Rescue and relief operations are being carried out on a war footing in the Nandanagar disaster-affected areas with the support of the police, administration, NDRF, SDRF, and local people. In Kuntri Laga Phali village, the SDRF, NDRF, fire service, and local police administration are conducting an intensive search operation.
On the night of September 17, heavy rains worsened the situation in Kuntri and Dhurma villages in the Nandanagar area. According to information received from the district administration, 12 people were initially reported missing in the debris. Of these, seven bodies have been recovered. Two people were rescued safely from the debris. Some people are still missing, and a search operation is ongoing. In Kuntari Laga Phali, Dhurma Ward, 27 to 30 buildings and cow sheds have been damaged.
CM Dhami has been monitoring the situation since the first day of the disaster. He directed that there be no laxity in relief and rescue operations. He directed officials to visit the affected areas and address the people’s problems.
In addition, CM Dhami directed the immediate restoration of roads, drinking water supply, electricity, and network connectivity in the affected areas. He also directed officials to ensure adequate arrangements for shelter, food, clean drinking water, and other essential amenities for the disaster-affected people, as well as the availability of adequate medical personnel and medicines in each affected area. CM Dhami also gave clear instructions to officials on the very first day regarding providing proper treatment to the injured and providing relief materials to the affected.
