CM Dhami said at the book launch, “Encourage the habit of reading books, give books, not bouquets.”

Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami released the book “New Political History of Uttarakhand State,” written by senior journalist and renowned author Jai Singh Rawat, at the Chief Minister’s residence on Saturday. This book depicts a complete and authentic documentary journey of the political, administrative, and gradual development of Uttarakhand. The CM said that the coherence and authenticity with which senior journalist Jai Singh Rawat has compiled the political journey of the state since its formation in 25 years is highly commendable.

During the book launch, the CM said that while numerous books are available on Uttarakhand’s history, culture, and folk traditions, compiling the events of these 25 years since the state’s inception based on facts, documents, and analysis is a challenging task, one that the author has presented with excellence. He also stated that this book, divided into five parts, will prove especially useful for researchers, students, and youth preparing for administrative services.

Chief Minister Dhami noted that after becoming a state, Uttarakhand experienced a long period of political instability, which impacted the pace of development. Jai Singh Rawat has compiled an important historical compilation with the help of rare documents and press clippings, providing an authentic presentation of this entire period. He also stated that writing history is a serious responsibility, requiring facts, insight, and honesty. In this context, Jai Singh Rawat has preserved this period with journalistic integrity and fearlessness.

Emphasizing the importance of book reading, the Chief Minister said that in today’s internet age, information is readily available, but the importance of books can never be diminished. He said that books deepen our thoughts and preserve knowledge permanently. During the program, the CM appealed to everyone to “give books, not bouquets” at any event. This will not only increase interest in books but also inspire writers.

While the use of technology is essential in this rapidly changing era of Artificial Intelligence (AI), it is also our collective responsibility to preserve our regional languages and dialects, including Garhwali, Kumaoni, and Jaunsari. The CM said that students should promote language content, literature, and folk tradition in their mother tongues. Former Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and former Chief Minister Harish Rawat were also present on the occasion.
