Following this, at 8:30 a.m., the doors of Baba Kedarnath were closed for the winter season. Following the closing of the Kedarnath shrine, the Panchmukhi Chal Vigraha Utsav Doli of Baba Kedarnath departed for its winter seat, the Omkareshwar Temple.
Meanwhile, the doors of Maa Gaura Mai in Gaurikund, a major stop on the Kedarnath Yatra, have also been closed for the winter season. Preparations for the closing of the doors were made by the Badri-Kedar Temple Committee and the right holders.
On the occasion of Bhaiya Dooj, the doors of Gauramai in Gaurikund were closed for the winter season. At 8 a.m. on Thursday, priests and Brahmins closed the doors of Maa Gaura Mai with Vedic chanting and ancient rituals in the presence of devotees. After completing a circumambulation of the temple, the Goddess’s palanquin departed for Gauri Village. The worship of Maa Gaura Mai will now be performed in Gauri Village for the six months of winter.
It is believed that before Lord Shiva’s festive palanquin from Kailash reaches Gaurikund, Gauramai’s palanquin is taken out of the sanctum sanctorum and departs for its winter seat, preventing the union of Baba Kedar and Gauramai. Gauramai was angered when Lord Shiva fought with Ganesha, Parvati’s son, and beheaded him.
Vyapar Sangh President Ram Goswami of Gaurikund stated that the temple’s doors were closed for the winter season at exactly 8 a.m. The worship of Maa Gaura Mai will now be performed in Gauri Village for the six months of winter. He explained that this tradition has been going on for years. When the doors of Baba Kedarnath are closed, before the palanquin reaches Gaurikund, the doors of Mother Gaura Mai are closed and the palanquin departs for Gauri Village.
