Dehradun: It’s around three in the afternoon. Hundreds of unemployed youth, who have been protesting near the Parade Ground for eight days regarding the UKSSSC paper leak, are taking the stage as usual, expressing their concerns and demands. Shortly after, the police administration’s vigilance around the protest site increased, and the youth began to question why so many police were present.
On the hot day, some young people began to wonder if the police had come to pick them up. Before they could discuss or understand anything, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s convoy arrived at the protest site. As the CM arrived among the youth, the unemployed youth present there shared their problems one by one. After listening to the youth, CM Dhami shared his thoughts with them.
He said, “It’s been a week. Ram Kandwal met with them on the first day to assure them that there should be no doubt or mistrust among a large group of students. “I appreciate that you endured the hardship and carried out the protest peacefully. It’s my resolve that the exam is a recruitment process and it should be conducted with complete transparency. When our children complete their studies and prepare for recruitment, they have dreams.”
He said, “The paper leak case is under investigation, and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is investigating it. The SIT, headed by retired High Court judge UC Dhyani, is conducting its investigation. Facts are being collected from everywhere. There is no obstruction from the government.” The CM’s statement was met with applause by the youth. CM Dhami then addressed the youth’s demands, saying, “I’ve said this before and I’m saying it again today. We will automatically withdraw all the cases filed against our children, my brothers, sisters, sons, and daughters, just provide us with a list of them.” This statement was also met with applause from the youth. CM Dhami added, “We’ll discuss whatever issues arise regarding the recruitment exam issue among ourselves. I absolutely do not want any question marks to be cast on any recruitment process.” This statement was also met with applause from the youth.
Chief Minister Dhami then said, “You are not sitting on the protest alone; I have come with you, and together we will improve the recruitment process and make our state the best in the country.” The unemployed youth listened patiently and peacefully to the CM’s nearly five-minute speech, and again, a voice emerged from among them: “Cancel the exam or conduct a CBI investigation.” The CM stated that an SIT investigation was underway, but the youth did not agree and unanimously advocated for a CBI investigation. He then stated that the government would take positive action on all the demands. Following CM Dhami’s recommendation for a CBI investigation into the paper leak, the unemployed union officials decided to suspend the protest.
