Dehradun: State President of Uttarakhand Congress Party, Karan Mahara has written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner and the Election Commission of India. In the letter, in view of conducting transparent elections, a request has been made to remove the DGP of the state from the post. Presently Abhinav Kumar is the acting DGP i.e. Director General of Police of Uttarakhand.
Karna Mahara demanded removal of DGP
Karan Mahara has written a letter to the Chief Election Commission saying that the process of Lok Sabha general elections is in progress. In such a situation, the Election Commission has declared April 19 as the date of elections in Uttarakhand. He says that the current DGP of the state, Abhinav Kumar, before becoming the Director General of Police, was posted as the Principal Secretary to the current Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. In such a situation, a question mark arises on the fairness of elections due to loyalty to the ruling party.
Abhinav Kumar is DGP of Uttarakhand
Party’s state spokesperson spokesperson Garima Dasoni says that not only the party’s state president Karan Mahara, but the entire opposition has the apprehension that the acting DGP of the state is close to the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, and is a person in his kitchen cabinet. He said that the present DGP is from Uttar Pradesh cadre. In such a situation, the opposition fears that the election results may be affected. Garima says that regarding this, Mahara has written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner and the Election Commission of India requesting their removal from the post.
Election Commission has removed the DGP of Bengal
It is noteworthy that on Monday itself, the Election Commission had removed the Home Secretaries of six states including the DGP of West Bengal from election duty. Home Secretaries of six states include Home Secretaries of Gujarat, UP, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh.
