Country’s first yoga policy 2025 implemented in Uttarakhand, Uttarakhand will become the global capital of yoga and wellness, Dhami announced from Bhararisain

Dehradun: On the occasion of International Yoga Day, the Uttarakhand government has implemented the country’s first yoga policy in the state. The AYUSH department had prepared a yoga policy to make Uttarakhand state the global capital of yoga and wellness along with Devbhoomi. It was approved in the Dhami cabinet meeting held on 28 May 2025.

Country’s first yoga policy implemented in Uttarakhand: After this, on the occasion of International Yoga Day, a program was organized in the assembly premises located at Bhararisain in Gairsain, the winter capital of the state. Here Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami issued the notification of the country’s first yoga policy. After the release of this notification, the yoga policy has been implemented in the state of Uttarakhand.

Exercise going on since 2 years: In fact, the exercise to implement yoga policy in Uttarakhand was going on since the year 2023. After the implementation of AYUSH policy in the state, the AYUSH department had taken steps towards preparing a yoga policy in the year 2023 itself. The AYUSH department had prepared the initial draft of the yoga policy and also sent it to the government for training. Then due to some deficiencies in the draft, it was sent back from the government. After this, the AYUSH department prepared the country’s first yoga policy as per the guidelines of the government.

Yoga policy prepared in 2 years: In preparing this yoga policy, the AYUSH department took suggestions from Ayurveda experts as well as all stakeholders. The yoga policy was prepared by the AYUSH department in about 2 years. After getting approval from the Legislative Department in May 2025, it was placed before the cabinet on 28 May, which was approved by the Dhami cabinet. After this, today on June 21, on International Yoga Day, Uttarakhand Yoga Policy 2025 has been implemented.

Target to create 5 yoga hubs by 2030: Under the Uttarakhand Yoga Policy 2025, the government has also set many targets. Under this, the target is to establish at least five new yoga hubs in Uttarakhand by the year 2030. Yoga hubs will be established in Jageshwar, Mukteshwar, Vyas Valley, Tehri Lake and Kolidhek Lake area. Along with this, the target is also set to provide yoga services in all the AYUSH Health and Wellness Centers of the state by March 2026.

More than 13 thousand jobs will be available: The state government believes that after the implementation of the Yoga Policy, more than 13,000 jobs will be available in the state of Uttarakhand. 2,500 yoga teachers will be certified by the Yoga Certification Board. More than 10,000 yoga instructors are likely to get employment in homestays, hotels etc.

Objective of the country’s first yoga policy

  • – Uttarakhand Yoga Policy will promote public health as well as tourism in Uttarakhand
  • – Yoga Directorate will be established under the Yoga Policy
  • – Rules and guidelines will be made for yoga institutes
  • – Uttarakhand state will be established as the global capital of yoga and wellness.
  • – This policy will help in making Uttarakhand a strong and developed state.
  • – After the implementation of the Yoga Policy, the spiritual heritage of Yoga of the country will be protected.
  • – Yoga will be integrated in education.
  • – Yoga meditation centers will get promotion as well as development.
  • – Research in yoga and spirituality will also be encouraged.
  • – Yoga, spirituality and tourism will also develop in Uttarakhand.
  • – Yoga instructor centers will be established under the Yoga Policy.
  • – Registration of yoga trained and yoga related infrastructure will be developed.
  • – Under the Uttarakhand Yoga Policy, all facilities will be provided to promote yoga.
  • – Yoga courses will be started in schools.
  • – Live yoga will be broadcast to the general public, school children and colleges.
  • – Yoga policy will benefit 13 thousand people of the state as yoga trainers, yoga instructors.
  • – Yoga sessions will be conducted in hotels, resorts, homestays, schools, colleges and corporate sectors.

After the implementation of the Yoga Policy in the state of Uttarakhand today on 21 June 2025, now a “Yoga Directorate” will be formed to operate the Yoga Policy, make rules and implement it, give grants and monitor all departmental activities. Many important provisions have been made in the Yoga Policy. Under which, Yoga Instructor Caddo will be established, registration of yoga trained and yoga related infrastructure will be developed. Not only this, all facilities will be provided to promote yoga under the Yoga Policy. In which capital grants will be given to Yoga and Knowledge Centers. Provision of grants for yoga research, promotion of yoga in the resources available in the state as well as startups will be encouraged. Apart from this, capacity building will be done in the field of yoga in collaboration with national and international institutions. Also, the establishment of world-class yoga centers will be encouraged.

Goals set under the Yoga Policy

– Five new yoga hubs will be established in Uttarakhand by the year 2030.

– Jageshwar, Mukteshwar, Vyas Valley, Tehri Lake and Kolidhek Lake will be developed as yoga.

– Yoga services will be made available in all Ayush Health and Wellness Centers of the state by March 2026.

– Community based mindfulness program will be started.

– The program will be started keeping in mind the needs of different age, gender and class.

– All yoga institutions of the state will be registered.

– A special online yoga platform will be started.
