Dehradun Municipal Corporation Foundation Day: CM lays foundation stone and inaugurates projects worth Rs 46 crore

Dehradun: A grand event was organized to mark the 27th Foundation Day of the Municipal Corporation. Prior to 1997, the Dehradun Municipal Corporation functioned as a Municipal Council. Subsequently, in 1997, the Dehradun Municipal Council was upgraded to a Municipal Corporation. Attending the Foundation Day celebrations at the Dehradun Municipal Corporation, Chief Minister Dhami laid the foundation stone and inaugurated development projects worth over Rs 46 crore. Addressing the event, Chief Minister Dhami said that over the past 27 years, the Dehradun Municipal Corporation has achieved numerous achievements in the areas of expanding civic amenities and modern urban management. It has played a key role in developing Dehradun into a clean, safe, and well-organized city.

The country is creating records under the leadership of PM Modi: CM Dhami further stated that the Dehradun Municipal Corporation’s foundation day is an occasion to celebrate these achievements and also to realize the dreams of development on the ground, keeping in mind the challenges of the future. The CM stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is setting new records of development and prosperity. Today, numerous projects are providing a new direction to the development of urban areas across the country. Through the Swachh Bharat Mission, a new culture of cleanliness has developed in millions of cities, towns, and cities across the country. The AMRUT scheme has improved water supply, sewerage, and green spaces in urban areas. Similarly, the Smart City Mission has emerged as a model for urban development.

Commitment to making Dehradun modern and developed: CM Dhami stated that under the guidance of the Prime Minister, the state government is working with full commitment to make Dehradun a modern and developed city. In Dehradun, while the Swachh Bharat Mission is strengthening the city’s solid waste management and sanitation system, efforts are being made to provide better amenities to citizens through public welfare schemes such as the Smart City Mission, Pradhan Mantri Swanidhi Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, AMRUT Mission, Open Defecation Free Campaign, and Legacy Waste Management.

Many Projects Underway: To establish Dehradun as a modern city, the government is working on several projects worth over ₹1,400 crore. A modern mechanized transfer station has been constructed for waste management in the city. An Integrated Command and Control Center has also been established for real-time monitoring of garbage vehicles. To create a green and healthy Dehradun, 35 parks have been constructed across the city. The city’s largest yoga-themed park is being constructed in Kedarpuram. Furthermore, over 50,000 square meters of green space is being developed in the city through special memorial parks in memory of brave martyrs.

 

Electric buses operating in the city: The Chief Minister also stated that the “Renew Rispana” campaign is being implemented to revitalize the city’s rivers. He stated that 30 electric buses are being operated in the city to promote environmental protection, and charging stations for private electric vehicles have been constructed at 11 locations. Due to the efforts of the state government, Dehradun ranked 19th nationwide in the Clean Air Survey conducted by the central government under the National Clean Air Program. Furthermore, Dehradun has significantly improved its ranking in the national cleanliness ranking of top clean cities, achieving 62nd place this year.

Permanent Solution to Traffic and Parking Problems: Chief Minister Dhami stated that the state government is also striving for a permanent solution to the traffic and parking problems in Dehradun. To this end, underground parking lots are being constructed at various locations. To ease traffic congestion, plans are also being developed to construct elevated roads over the Rispana and Bindal rivers. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also rewarded Municipal Corporation personnel for outstanding work.

CM Dhami laid the foundation stone for these projects:

  • Development of the road, footpath, greenery, and beautification from Kirsali Chowk to Sahastradhara Crossing, costing ₹264.21 lakh
  • Construction of a gas-powered animal crematorium for disposal of dead animals at Mothrowala, costing ₹147.89 lakh
  • Development of the road, footpath, greenery, and beautification from Canal Road, Lakjuria Farm to Ajanta Hotel, costing ₹247.58 lakh
  • Development of the road, footpath, greenery, and beautification from Kuthal Gate to Rajpur Chowk, costing ₹257.67 lakh
  • Development of the road, footpath, greenery, and beautification from Ghantaghar to RTO Chowk, costing ₹165.84 lakh
  • Development of the road, footpath, greenery, and beautification from Ghantaghar to Yamuna Colony, costing ₹193.11 lakh
  • From Vivekananda Chowk Road footpath development, greenery, and beautification work towards Kuthal Gate: Cost 234.79 lakh

CM Dhami inaugurated these projects:

  • Park development work on Ward No. 60 IT Park Road: Cost 116.75 lakh
  • Unveiling of the Municipal Corporation’s coffee table book/diary/e-office
  • Mechanized smart car parking: Cost 3.29 crore
  • Rajpur Road parking: Cost 1.00 crore
  • Construction of a mechanized transfer station in Dhora: Cost 6.29 crore
