Delhi HC Orders X & Google To Delete “Defamatory” Posts Against Speaker Om Birla’s Daughter

Shortly after, certain internet users started targeting Ms. Anjali Birla, the daughter of the Lok Sabha speaker Mr. Om Birla, by accusing her of using her father’s influence to crack the UPSC CSE in her first attempt — she approached the Delhi High Court seeking directions to take down the ‘defamatory’ social media posts issued against her and her father.

Shortly after the ‘NEET UG Paper Leak’ & ‘Puja Khedkar Fake Disability Certificate’ Saga, claims that Anjali Birla became an IAS officer because her father’s “powerful position” went viral on social media. Several social media users alleged that Ms. Birla, a model by profession, used her father’s “position” to clear the ultra-competitive exam on her very first attempt. Ms. Anjali Birla cleared the UPSC CSE in 2019 in her maiden attempt and joined Indian Railways as an IRPS (Indian Railway Personnel Service) officer in 2021.

The plea was lodged before Justice Navin Chawla by Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar, who, upon hearing the case, directed X Corporation and Google to delete such defamatory social media posts. The Delhi HC mandated that the ‘defamatory’ posts be deleted within 24 hours by the intermediaries and also issued notices to X, Google, Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and unknown parties in the matter seeking their response within four weeks.

Ms. Birla had earlier mentioned that her father was the inspiration behind her decision to join the civil services and the rest was done by her elder sister Akanksha. According to Anjali, her elder sister Akansha motivated her step by step.
